American Appeal (aerial)

2008
Oil, fish-hooks, nails and wax on panel of canvas and plywood
200 x 200 x 10 cm

The artist was inspired by the experience of visiting New York for the first time, creating a series of works entitled American Appeal where he uses thousands of fish-hooks as a symbol of seduction and trap. All the meanings related to that become stronger if we analyze issues like immigration/emigration regarding the American Dream that New York means, especially from the Cuban context.
