Mass Portrait (lot)

2007 to 2008
Carved stone and metal
Variable dimensions

The installation consists in a group of unfinished portraits, carved on stone blocks. Every piece of stone is like the representation of an unidentified individual. lt seems that the faces were not carved because every stone was not big enough. This cynic situation creates the metaphor of the work, where the artist limits himself to carving just the detailed ears of different people; from photos of anonymous persons, that he took in the street.

This work analyzes contents like the lost identity, the impossibility or dissolution of individual expression and the condition of the human being inside collective circumstances or social structures. The ears without a face are a symbol of not having voice. lt is a representation of the subject as a part of the mass, that doesn´t express anything; it is just receiving words and listening to.
